GIQuIC Site of the Month

Participating in GIQuIC since 2013, Santa Maria Digestive Diagnostic Center has many years of experience with the registry and uses it to report to CMS’ Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). Alidia Arias, Krista Cano, and Isabel Espinoza are primarily responsible for working with the site’s physicians to verify the data being uploaded to GIQuIC.

Ms. Arias recently participated in GIQuIC’s monthly QuIC Bite webinar, Discussing Documentation with the Docs, and shared how she and her colleagues implemented a new GIQuIC workflow and why it has been successful. She is also responsible for running measure reports on a regular basis and distributing them to the physicians so they can view their performance and compare it to the other physicians at Santa Maria, as well as the entire cohort participating in GIQuIC. In addition, one of the site’s physicians has emerged as a “physician champion” for the registry and they have been instrumental in working with their colleagues to refine their documentation procedures.

When asked what advice she would give to other practices participating in the registry, Ms. Arias emphasized the importance of identifying a physician champion and involving all participating doctors in the GIQuIC workflow. “Educate your doctors, along with your staff,” she advised. “And run reports on a regular basis and distribute them so physicians can see how they are doing and make corrections.”
